Sundog Ecovillage Projects
We have an ongoing list of projects that always need extra hands, from event hosting, building, garden planning to forestry. Check in for regular work parties or if you have skills you would like to share or learn, look into our Intern and Volunteer program. Winter Green House Completion Earth moving, brick moving, masonry bed building, and finish trim carpentry. A range of skills and labor can find themselves busy in this recycled building project to grow greens all winter long, start spring plants and buffer our community from the heat and cold.Matt writes in his journal during a training in group leadership and consensus.
Community Workshop Finish Work Cutting in new windows, storage shelving, stage, tool library organizing. This 2400 square foot open space is our main multi use space that we want to get ready for movement, classes, art making, large gatherings etc. The space is well built it just needs the finishing touches to make it glow. Compost and Recycling Shed A simple recycled slab wood building is needed to keep our bears and wildlife safe. A fed bear is a dead bear. We need bear proof and breathable.Raised bed gardens We have a beautiful mountain landscape that grows all of our native plants and trees well but we like to eat carrots and greens not just pine cones and buttercups. So we need to build soil, for food beds. Do you know anyone with topsoil they could give us? We will need rock haulers and shovel handy folks.
Garden and Orchard Deer Fencing We have the fortune of living in zone 5 at the moment, permaculturally speaking, that means we live with the wild life and we need to create some personal space for our food habits, less than an acre out of forty, we like to share.
After a day of work the Blackfoot river is minutes away for some beach time. This is Redrocks swimming hole in Johnsrud Park.
Forest Work (Fire mitigation, thinning, insect infestation culling, mulching.) Much of the skilled labor is done but we need hands to help move timber and chip slash among other things for keeping a healthy forest.
Camp We would like to create trails, tent pads, run water, among other things to create a community within the community for our guests, volunteers, and interns to create a dynamic and beautiful camping space.
Dry toilet and Laundry Facility and Community House "arctic entry"-coat room. To be designed and approved. Alternative, extreme green, natural, bioregionaly appropriate, building techniques. This may be a workshop opportunity.
Fund Raising We are a forming aspiring ecovillage with great dreams and aspirations that need financial sustainability to make them real. Fund raising events, courses, Grant writing, etc are all great intern projects that we would welcome.
Maintenance and Land Stewards From plumbing to mowing the small lawn, to chopping fire wood. It seems like there is always something that needs to be done in the beautiful out doors or the cozy community house.
This list is not exhaustive by any means. Beyond the larger projects there are the real nuts and bolts or glue that hold a community together, so if you are coming for a short visit, there is always food to prepare, childcare to help out with, dishes to wash, toilets to clean, and good times to be had working with others, so come lend a hand at Sundog Ecovillage.
